Welcome to the Capital Area Section of the Florida Chapter of the American Planning Association. Not only is the Capital Area home to the State's oldest urban planning program at Florida State University, we are also the seat of Florida politics and home to the central offices' of many State agencies including the Department of Environmental Protection and the Department of Transportation. Our mission is to provide a point of contact for professional and student planners in Tallahassee and the surrounding communities which make up the Capital Area Section. Through this network the Capital Area Section works to promote educational, social, and advocacy opportunities. The Capital Area Section sponsors various activities throughout the year and notifies members via email and this website. It is our hope that you participate in the activities and events and help to make them informative and enjoyable.

The planning profession in Florida is undergoing change due to economic stresses, political climate, and current legislation.  Recently the planning profession has been characterized as a hindrance to economic growth and just another form of government regulation that should be squashed in the name of individual freedoms. Planning professionals need to make their voices heard about why and how we should plan in Florida.  Planning is about crafting a sustainable future that includes protecting fragile environments and building essential infrastructure needed to ensure the quality of life for those of us today and for future generations. As planners it is our responsibility for how the planning profession is perceived. Make your voice heard over the noise…..

"Being responsible sometimes means pissing people off." - General Colin Powell
